Pre-Flight with Really Bad Coffee in My Hand

Just a random faux dinosaur skeleton.

Well, the day has come. I am currently sitting at Chicago O’Hare waiting for my 6am flight to Washington D.C. Boarding begins soon, and it’s about time. I’ve been at the airport since 3:30 this morning. But, things have gone smoothly.

But I have to wonder at myself sometimes. At around 4, I was engaged in an intense discussion with a couple from Chicago on their way to their wedding in San Juan, Puerto Rico about American history—in terms of white, European civilizations—when compared to those of other European countries. Oh, and this was on about 2 hours of sleep. The academic came out in me today already. Huh, go figure. They were an interesting couple though. Conversation turned from me not having a northern Wisconsin accent, them paying for a small wedding (and it being considerably more expensive that what they anticipated), travel plans, future plans…at 4 in the morning. Needless to say the day has started off on the right foot.

You know, I could write an entire blog about American “history” in terms of  European “history”…

So far so good. I haven’t encountered any difficulties in maneuvering my way around the terrorizing terminals. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, however. I haven’t reached customs yet…
